Harmony ... and Christianity? WTH?
Yesterday, I stumbled across the following:
"It has been claimed that [Harmonians, which are hardcore-Harry/Hermione-shippers] have a collective philosophy that extends beyond the pairing war. This philosophy is generally considered to relate strongly to "Christian values", such as chastity and purity. According to Harmonians, Ron/Hermione is abusive, and Harry/Ginny is shallow and based on lust."
(Fanhistory)
Now. Plain wrong!
Well, not all of it. Let me state that "purity" is, actually, one of the many good adjectives that are related to the Harmony-Ship. But not Harry and Hermione are "pure", but their love. Which doesn't mean that they can't have lots and lots of sex. That's not what purity means in this case.
Also, in my opinion, Ron/Hermione is nothing but stupid, and Harry/Ginny is shallow - but it's not actually based on lust, it's based on nothing! If it were based on lust, well, they're sixteen and fifteen in book six, so that's not really wrong or unnormal. It's not exactly mine, either, but I'd be okay with it.
What makes me angry about the above statement is that it compares Harmony with Christianity.
ARRRRGGHH!!!
Let me state that now. The Harmony-Ship has, in and on itself, NOTHING to do with ANY religion there is! The Alchemical Search for Your Divine Self does apply to Harry/Hermione, but that doesn't mean that us Shippers believe in anything like that!
I for myself am totally and absolutely against religion. And still, I consider myself a Harmonian, because I entirely support the Harry/Hermione-Ship.
So, this goes out to you, Fanhistory, and to everyone who ever believed Harmony to have anything to do with Christianity: It doesn't.
Actually, now that I know that some people so closely associate things like trust, understanding, respect and purity with Christianity, I'm finally not so surprised anymore that there are Ron/Hermione-Shippers, and that there are Christian people.
